Here's what we said, during our first class together, we'd like to have from each other. An expression of our hopes, fears, expectations and needs as participants in the Global Activism class and learning community.

  • Help with time management. Holding each other accountable to not procrastinating, doing good teamwork, and showing up for each other.
  • The hope for in-depth getting to know each other. Hope for helping each other to see different perspectives. Hope that we don't hold back.
  • The hope and expectation that we will accomplish something meaningful.
  • To give each other the benefit of the doubt when we're trying to express something. To be patient with one another. And kind.
  • Fear of not being an activist - "don't know if I've found an activist bone"
  • Fear of lots going on this semester and trying to keep multiple balls in the air
  • Expectation that we be honest with each other
  • Hope that we'll remember to use "I" statements when expressing feelings or opinions, not to assume "we" all think the same
  • Expectation that each person will take ownership of this learning and this process and take initiative. It's important to think of ourselves as a group doing something together.
  • Shyness: be aware of it in the group.
  • Expectation that we are going to have an awesome project coming out of this - to have a hand at starting this project for the Global Studies program and for many, many more students to come...
